Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani reveals that Tom Holland spoiled Tobey Maguire’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home during their first meeting.
Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani reveals that Tom Holland spoiled Spider-Man: No Way Home for her during their first meeting. The latest in Marvel’s expansion into Disney+ TV series, Ms. Marvel will see Vellani make her MCU debut as the show’s titular hero, otherwise known as Kamala Khan. The six-episode series will follow Khan, a self-professed Captain Marvel fan, as she learns to harness her very own power. The series is expected to set up Vellani’s next upcoming MCU appearance, which will see her star alongside Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson in next year’s The Marvels.
Known for its meticulous interwoven storylines, the current phase of the MCU has been in the process of setting up a variety of plot points throughout the studios’ previous phase 4 releases thus far. Perhaps one of the most integral films in establishing Phase 4’s focus moving forward has been Spider-Man: No Way Home, which enjoyed an enormous box office opening having introduced the concept of the multiverse. After months of intense fan speculation, Hollywood’s worst-kept secret was unveiled as the film delighted audiences with the return of Spider-Man alumni, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire after Garfield had vehemently denied his involvement with the film.
In a recent interview with Elite Daily, Vellani revealed that Holland visited her on set while she was shooting Ms. Marvel in Atlanta as the actor was also shooting next door for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Vellani discussed meeting her fellow Marvel star and shared that he “was so nice.” The star went on the reveal how, after asking Holland what Spider-Man: No Way Home was about, the actor wasted no time in sharing a massive spoiler with her by confirming Maguire’s appearance in the film. Check out Vellani’s full quote below.
I was half dressed, literally a bra and biker shorts, I was like, ‘Oh, my God. I am half naked right now.’ But he was so nice. He was like, ‘What’s your show even about?’ I was like, ‘What’s Spider-Man about?’ He fully shows me a photo of him with Tobey Maguire! I get we’re both in Marvel, but I didn’t need to know that before it happened.
Holland has a hilarious history of spoiling key plot points within the Marvel films, so much so that it has since become somewhat of a running joke for both fans and even the star’s fellow co-stars. Holland has joked about Marvel’s intense spoiler protection on a number of occasions, having famously revealed that he was told that Tony Stark’s funeral scene in Avengers: Endgame was a wedding, in order to preserve the surprise behind the character’s shocking death. Vellani has previously discussed how she was already a Marvel superfan prior to her casting, with Marvel president Kevin Feige having compared the star’s passion for Ms. Marvel to Holland’s love for his character, Peter Parker.
As a huge Marvel fan herself, it’s completely understandable that Vellani would want to go into Spider-Man: No Way Home spoiler-free, however, her interaction with Holland certainly makes for a hilarious story. Given the intense questioning that Holland experienced in the run-up to the Spidey sequel’s release, one could assume he was simply excited to let someone in on the secret, having entrusted his new young co-star with such highly coveted confirmation. As Holland continues his reign of spoilery terror, albeit on a not-so-public scale this time, it remains to be seen just where and when the star will strike next.
