It’s officially confirmed The Batman director Matt Reeves will show footage from the film during his anticipated panel at DC FanDome.
The Batman footage is confirmed to screen at DC FanDome. After bypassing San Diego Comic-Con 2020, DC is gearing up to host their own virtual convention to promote a slew of upcoming projects across multiple mediums. DC FanDome is a massive event that’s so big, it had to be broken up across two days to make things a little more manageable for interested viewers. August 22 sees the Hall of Heroes take center stage, while Explore the Multiverse takes place in September. The former will showcase movies, while the latter is primarily focused on TV and other areas.
One film people are very excited to see at FanDome is Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which is still in the midst of a production delay caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Prior to the shutdown, Reeves had shot about 25 percent of the movie, which gives him more than enough material to cut together a sizzle reel for FanDome. It was previously reported The Batman footage would be shown at the event, and now it’s officially confirmed.
The DC FanDome Hall of Heroes trailer includes a short clip of Reeves’ taped appearance, where the director says, “There is no way that I could come here and not bring a look at the movie.”
It’s unlikely a full, proper The Batman trailer will premiere at DC FanDome. One hasn’t been officially rated yet (as was the case with Wonder Woman 1984), and a majority of the movie needs to be filmed. Still, it’s exciting viewers will be treated to some footage. Most notably, Zoe Kravitz said her Catwoman costume would have debuted by now if not for the pandemic, so it’s likely fans will finally get a chance to see her suited up. The Batman is also set to feature a plethora of the Dark Knight’s most iconic villains, like Riddler and Penguin, so perhaps they’ll also be briefly seen. Of course, Reeves is somewhat limited since he can only show something from the 25 percent he’s shot, but it sounds like whatever it is will be worthy of the hype.
Recently, much has been said about how The Batman does a deep dive into Bruce Wayne’s trauma and will blow audiences away. Obviously, time will tell how successful it is in achieving those goals, but any footage shown at DC FanDome should give viewers a general impression of Reeves’ approach and what he’s going for. It’s imperative he finds a way to make his version stand out from the many other cinematic Batmen that came before Robert Pattinson, but Reeves is a very talented filmmaker who’s put his unique stamp on established properties before. The Batman is one of the most anticipated upcoming DC movies, and hopefully whatever footage is shown delivers on the promise.
