Sex and the City star Chris Noth, who played Carrie’s longtime love interest, Mr. Big, will return for the reboot series And Just Like That… .
Sex and the City star, Chris Noth, will reprise his role as Mr. Big in the reboot series, And Just Like That… . During the late ‘90s, Candace Bushnell’s Sex and the City novel was scooped up by show creator Darren Star to become a groundbreaking, award-winning, and legendary series for HBO. Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Kim Cattrall, the show follows four friends – Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha – as they navigate life and love in New York City.
Earlier this year, HBO announced that a Sex and the City limited reboot series, titled And Just Like That… , was coming to HBO, sans Catrall’s Samantha Jones. Helmed by Michael Patrick King, the new installment of Sex and the City revealed that Carrie’s longtime love, Mr. Big (Noth), would not make an appearance, leaving fans to speculate how the series would address his absence. Last month, John Corbett confirmed that he would be returning to reprise his role as Carrie’s ex-fiance Aidan after David Eigenberg solidified his return as Miranda’s husband, Steve Brady. Now, it appears Mr. Big is making a characteristically smooth and surprising entrance.
Per THR, Noth has officially signed a deal to reprise his role as Mr. Big in And Just Like That… . The revival follows Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda as they navigate the next chapter of their lives in their 50s and is slated for ten 30-minutes episodes. At this time, it has yet to be revealed how many episodes Mr. Big will appear in. Speaking on Noth signing on for the reboot, King said, “I’m thrilled to be working with Chris again on And Just Like That… . How could we ever do a new chapter of the Sex and the City story without our Mr. Big?”.
Of course, the announcement of Mr. Big’s return is a welcomed nugget of news for fans. After revealing that And Just Like That… would be missing the two iconic characters of Samantha and Mr. Big, devoted fans of the series were less inclined to tune in. Executed produced by King and Parker, the Sex and the City revival remains adamant about portraying a realistic perspective of New York City and will tackle the coronavirus pandemic. Slated to begin filming in the Big Apple this summer, And Just Like That… recently added Grey’s Anatomy alum, Sara Ramírez, as Che Diaz (they/them), a non-binary stand-up comedian podcaster.
Indeed, it remains to be seen how Mr. Big will factor into the fresh batch of storylines for the three leading ladies, especially if Corbett as Aidan remains attached to the project. Of course, it would be expected that And Just Like That… will address the romantic moment Carrie and Aidan shared in the second film, since it must have caused friction in Carrie and Mr. Big’s marriage. As it stands, the announcement of Mr. Big is one of the most surprising developments of the series this close to filming. It’ll be interesting to see what will become of Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda in And Just Like That… .
