A new trailer for the HBO series, Perry Mason, dropped on Youtube, giving us a better look at the character and revealing a June release date.
Audiences can look forward to Perry Mason returning to their television screens this June. The new series, released by HBO, follows the life of the titular character as a criminal defense lawyer and is inspired by the series of short stories and novelizations by Erle Stanley Garden. This is the second television adaptation of Perry Mason, with the first originally airing from 1957-1966. While that one starred Raymond Burr, the new installment has Matthew Rhys leading the cast. Rhys is no stranger to television, starring in the highly acclaimed FX series The Americans from 2013-2018. Rolin Jones and Ron Fitzgerald, veterans of the NBC series Friday Night Lights and Showtime’s Weeds, wrote the limited series.
Although being a highly anticipated project from HBO, fans were still left wondering when in 2020 the series would be released. We now have our answer in the form of a trailer that recently dropped on HBO’s YouTube channel. The limited series will be hitting television screens on June 21st.
Although not much other new information was revealed from the trailer, the video features a voice-over from Rhys as Perry Mason saying that “everybody is guilty” Some of the other cast members are also featured, including Tatiana Maslany and John Lithgow. It ends with a cliffhanger of someone sneaking up on Perry Mason, pointing a gun at his head. The whole series is steeped in noirish dialogue and visuals.
