The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Steve Rogers isn’t a perfect character but he isn’t one-note either. Here are Captain America’s best and worst traits.

Everyone has their favorite hero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as their favorite Avenger, but Captain America is generally seen as the most upstanding of the Avengers when it comes to morality. However, Steve Rogers isn’t a perfect character, and he isn’t one-note either.

He’s a character that is overall good, but he does have his own weaknesses and flaws that he has to overcome. This makes him a much more interesting character than he would have been if he was just a simplistic Boy Scout stereotype.

Worst: Stubborn

One of the most defining characteristics of Steve Rogers is his stubborn nature. In many ways, this is also one of his strengths, but he can take things too far when he digs his heels in.

This is most apparent when he’s unwilling to listen to Iron Man about the Accords. Captain America has a tendency to believe so strongly in what he’s doing that he won’t even consider different points of view.

Best: Sensitive

While Steve Rogers might seem at first glance like a stereotypically masculine superhero who would be gruff or unfeeling, he’s actually rather emotional and sensitive.

While sensitivity can be a bad thing when taken too far, it’s often a good trait in Steve’s case. He’s a person who cares a lot about others around him, and he doesn’t like to see others suffer. He hates bullies, and he has a good heart.

Worst: Selfish

One of the most upsetting things for fans of Captain America in the MCU was how selfish the character turned out to be at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

His decision to go back to the past with Peggy upset many people, and lots of fans felt like the choice was out of character. While this is his most selfish decision, he does have an overall tendency to think about his own needs when it comes to those he’s closest to, but it’s usually just because he wants to protect them.

Best: Determined

While Captain America’s stubbornness can sometimes be taken too far, he is quite determined in a way that’s usually a positive. In fact, his catchphrase that he’s best known for is “I can do this all day.” This speaks to how determined he is to do the right thing.

Even before he became Captain America, Steve Rogers was determined to join the army and fight against bullies and do his part. He will never back down from a fight if he believes he’s right.

Worst: Moody

Given that Captain America actually has a rather emotional state of being and is driven by his ideals, it’s not surprising that he can also be moody.

He gets deeply upset when he feels betrayed by people, such as Iron Man, and he will let others know if he doesn’t like them. He’s not always completely calm, cool, and collected, and he can be prone to depression.

Best: Protective

One of Captain America’s best characteristics is that he works so hard to protect other people.

This is especially true of people such as Bucky Barnes who he feels a special connection to, but it also extends to anyone he cares about. Beyond those in his closest circles such as Sam Wilson and Natasha Romanoff, Steve Rogers is also protective of those in society who need protection.

Worst: Distant

Captain America is the man out of time, and after waking up from the ice, he had to face a completely different world where almost everyone he knew was dead.

Because of this, it understandably is hard for him to adjust at first, and he doesn’t feel like he fits in. It’s not entirely his fault, but he can come across as distant and doesn’t always connect with many other people.

Best: Loyal

Steve Rogers would probably be a Gryffindor if he was sorted into a Hogwarts house because loyalty is one of his best traits. He is very stalwart in sticking to his ideals and morals, and he is loyal to the people he loves.

He shows this when he risks everything to help Bucky in Captain America: Civil War, and he even says that his loyalty lies with people.

Worst: Judgemental

One interesting thing about Captain America is that he actually shares some select traits with Tony Stark, both negative and positive, and this might be part of the reason why they often clash.

Both of these individuals can be judgemental in their own ways. Steve doesn’t trust people easily, and he will make snap judgments about someone’s ethics even if he doesn’t know them well.

Best: Self-Sacrificing

There’s no denying that Captain America is heroic in many ways, and one of his most heroic attributes is that he’s willing to sacrifice himself to save others.

He’s always throwing himself in the line of fire to protect other people. Whether he’s jumping on a grenade or walking behind enemy lines or crashing a plane into ice, he’s always willing to die to save innocent lives.
