Joanne Caswell, an ambitious prison justice psychologist, was found dead, her body dumped in a landfill a few miles from her home. She just bought a cell phone before she died, but who had a motive to kill her?
Vera quickly returned to her normal rhythm in season 9. Dour DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) hides a keen investigative mind behind a scruffy exterior; She was dressed in rain boots and a sou ‘wester, she was driving a beat-up Land Rover, she was living off Chinese takeout, and she didn’t seem to have much of a private life.
Her team, especially DS Aiden Healy(Kenny doughty), are rooting for her, but it’s worth noting that seven-year-old vera is often drawn into the battle just when her younger PALS should be taking the lead. (maybe she still doesn’t want to put them at risk after DC Whelan (Cush Jumbo) dies in season 6.)
The victim was not killed at the scene, vera says. She quickly identifies herself as living with her girlfriend, Melanie (Faith Alabi), but having lunch with her father, Graham (Adrian Lukis), who has just left her mother. But then who picked her up, killed her and dumped her?
